

Frederick Kroetsch is an Edmonton-based director whose work focuses on documentary, disability, and factual story-telling.
Drawing from a background in broadcast journalism, his work often blends observational access with cinematic, character-driven narratives.
Frederick has directed documentary and factual programming for Canadian and international broadcasters including Peacock/NBCUniversal, CBC, APTN, AMI-tv, TVO and History. His directing credits include Dangerous Breed: Crime. Cons. Cats. (Peacock/NBCUniversal), Queen of the Oil Patch (APTN), Push (CBC), five seasons of Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet, and episodes of The Curse of Oak Island.
He is the co-creator and director of Crip Trip, a multi-season documentary series for AMI-tv/TVO that follows Frederick and his longtime collaborator Daniel Ennett, a quadruple amputee, as they travel across North America pursuing creative work while navigating disability, caregiving, and survival. The series has become recognized for its unconventional style and disability-led perspective. It is currently nominated for a Rockie Award and recently won a Golden Sheaf. (They have just been greenlit to film season 3!)
Alongside his television work, Frederick continues to direct documentary films. This includes: Snow Warrior, co-produced with the National Film Board of Canada, and Last of the Fur Traders for AMI-tv. He also served as executive producer on Wochigii lo, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival.
His directing work has received national recognition, including 2 Canadian Screen Award Nominations for Best Lifestyle Director. He is also nominated for a Leo Award for best Lifestyle director.
